Can you believe September is almost over? Crazy, isn’t it. I remember dreading the moment when the cool air would hit my skin and I would need that extra layer to keep warm but I also am delighted that it is knitting season. I’m so happy that I get to knit earwarmers, scarves and hats for myself and you lovely people out there.
It is always a joy to create a piece that you know will keep someone warm and cozy.
Here are a few of my fall/winter favorites (adding more soon):
That is the question of the day. Aren’t jewels lovely, beautiful, vibrant items that just speak to a person? 🙂
I went yarn shopping a few weeks and I came upon this beautiful, soft roving yarn that gives me the best feeling in the world. It is so soft and so easy to work with that I made winter headbands with it. I purchased three colors; plum, teal and gold. These headbands are beyond gorgeous and would look great on anyone this winter season.
I love making items that I can see myself wearing over and over again.
Just take a look, there are perfect gifts as well.
So what do you think?
I really love to make an excuse for a celebration. I just updated the French Soul Knittery website. It is more seamless, simple and crisp. It is a one-top shop. All of you lovely people have the ability to browse, shop and explore the blog – all on one site. It is so easy and fun!
So in honor of the great accomplish, I am hosting a 10% sale on the new site. That’s right, get 10% off on all of the items in the store. Just enter promo code WELCOMEFALL and see the savings appear.
Enjoy and spread the word!
This summer was extremely memorable to say the least. I was a teaching artist-in-residence, teaching high school students how to knit. At first I was a bit apprehensive because I never taught children before, especially high school students. I was expecting resistance to the knitting movement but instead I got a group of students who were actually interested in public art and creating something of their own.
Due to the time-frame we had, I taught the students how to knit with a loom. This method was much easier for them and it allowed them to create pieces at a faster pace. Over time, the students were taking their looms home and knitting in their free time – how amazing is that?
During the summer, after we put up Phase 1 we celebrated by showcasing their creations at the local music festival that was going on in that very location of the install. They were excited to show patrons their creations.
For Phase 2, we took a different approach. We allowed them to have their very own trees and be more creative. The slogan for Phase 2 was BE MORE CREATIVE! And boy, did they show their true colors.
I also created a special French Soul Knittery/Ashley Leonard yarnbomb with the theme: SunRISE/SunSET. My theme was about rising to the occasion like the sun and making your dreams and goals come to fruition. I had such a great time and I hope to continue to teach children and adults the art of traditional knitting and loom knitting.
Here are a few photos of our experience:
